The Doffer/Cleaner brush is used to clean the large drum after you have removed the batt. It looks similar to a "Flicker" but with different points. Our Doffers are 2" wide and 4 ½" long. The pads have ½" long points spaced 72 per square inch. Use the center portion of the Doffer brush to contact the curve of the large drum. Starting at the seam, swipe the Doffer brush down the drum in the same direction as the teeth on the drum. Continue across the width of the drum. Slowly rotate the drum backwards as you use the brush to clean the entire drum.

This tool saves your knuckles from painful contact with the teeth of your drum carder while you are removing the batt from the large drum. It will not bend as does a knitting needle. Used correctly, the batt picker also saves the drum and card cloth from becoming damaged.

The Petite is a manual drum carder with a polyurethane drive belt. This carder is great for fiber artists with budget and/or space considerations who want a Strauch quality machine.

As with all Strauch drum carders, the Petite comes with our Brush Attachment.  The Petite is an excellent choice for a mid-sized carder with full sized features. The Petite is slightly smaller, with 6¾" wide drums instead of the 8¼" wide drums on the singlewide chain drives. The carder produces a batt approximately 6½" wide x 22" long. The Petite also has a 4:1 drum ratio.

The frame is made from high durability MDF material. The Petite frame is 16" long, 10" wide and 7" high.  An important feature: The tall frame allows the handle to swing freely of the table surface.

Strauch's customers requested a Strauch-quality carder that would produce those wonderful, outrageous "art batts" full of exciting fibers and textures.

Thick batts weighing more than 3 ounces can easily be made.  The Strauch Model 302 series "Mad Batt'r" art drum carder as part of the Strauch regular product line.
This carder has deeper pins (1/2" long) and coarser carding cloth (72 teeth per sq. in.) on the large drum to accommodate all the fun add-ins that make these art batts say "spin me"!
The machine is built on the standard 200 series 4" tall solid ash-wood frame and, like all my drum carders, uses the unique "Slicker-Licker" cloth on the small drum. As with all of our 200 series carders, the Mad Batt'r has a 4:1 turning ratio.  The brush attachment makes it easier to control the type of art batt you are making. The batts produced are 8" wide and 27" long

Our customers requested a Strauch-quality motorized drum carder that would produce those wonderful, outrageous "art batts" full of exciting fibers and textures. The manual carder has become so popular that offering a motorized version was the next logical progression.

Having both hands free makes it easier to control the type of art batt you are making. Since you can set the drum rotation speed to a particular value, your batts are consistent. Thick batts weighing more than 3 ounces can easily be made.

It uses the same motor and electronics as the Finest series. Included are all accessories and the brush attachment

We do not stock these but they usually ship from the factory as fast as if we did. Shipping is free within the US. For international shipping, please message for a quote.
Strauch says "By popular demand, we have now developed a motorized series of Finest drum carders. This includes both the singlewide and doublewide machines. In addition, both existing Strauch hand crank chain drive Finest models can be upgraded to the motorized version.

Being an engineer, I designed these machines to be truly unique in the marketplace and built with the same high standards as the hand crank models. They are "high tech" drum carders having both infinitely variable speed AND reversibility features. The "infinitely variable speed" feature (not just two or three speed settings) is a God-send when working with fine fibers like alpaca, merino and cashmere.

Our carders use very high quality, durable, electronically controlled motors that are made in the USA! All these machines have been extensively beta tested by some "heavy duty" fiber artists and they all have raved about the design, workmanship and durability.

The dimensions of these carders are the same as their manual counterparts."

For those who want to make really wide and thick "Art-batts", the "Mad Batt'r double wide" model 302x2-BA is available. This model has drums twice as wide as the regular Mad Batt'r motorized drum carder.

Other than size, the doublewide version of the Mad Batt’r motorized has the identical features and benefits as the singlewide version and comes complete with all available accessories including the brush attachment.
