Holiday Celebration

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Well I finally got my July fiber spun up, just in time for Christmas! Ha ha. At least the name remains apt.

Here’s my Celebration ~ thick and thin singles, 158 yards of smooshy goodness.

I also have my Aspen fiber on the wheel:

I love it, it’s gorgeous and fun to spin but it’s taking me forever. At some point it will be a two-ply and it will be awesome. I’m so behind.

Spunky Club Shetland- Celebration
The July selection, Celebration, was my first chance to spin a Shetland wool. It was such an enjoyable process and I loved watching Amy’s colors slip through my fingers. The singles were spun some time ago, but this past weekend I found time to ply. The technique used is chained singles (Navajo plying) as I wanted the colors to stay seperate. The skein was then wet finished in very hot water with a yarn plunger (and then dunked in cold water). It was whacked around a bit more after that and it fulled, evened out and fluffed up nicely. The plan is to knit the Composed Mitts from the Fall 07 IK, but it might be a bit too heavy. I’m still undecided, but I love the finished skein!

2 Months Worth!

…of Spunky Club fiber. Firstly, a pair of wonderfully fun and warm socks handcrafted in just about every way, the July selection “Celebration”:

Celebration Socks!

These are quite tall, and were a pleasure to spin up. I got a super-duper 345 yards or so out of this; it’s 2-ply and fairly thin. And very squishy! They were mostly knit while camping, and on a long return drive from the Midwest (I’m in Boston).

Next to come off the bobbins, we have the August longwool selection (my first long-staple spinning!), “Harvest Haze”:

This provides me with about 170 yards. It’s pretty hardcore stuff! I’m really liking how the colors came together - I believe - once knit up - it will stripe glamourously, shockingly, a nice splash. I’m think Market Bag might be the way to go with this one.

Hi guys, new to the club but I’ve really enjoyed seeing all of your gorgeous yarn! Here’s my take on Celebration (2 skeins of two ply plus a wee’un of Navajo…)

Gypsy Caravan

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

So. I was so exctied to get my first month from the Spunky Fiber club! The colors aren’t really my style. But I like how it turned out. I navajo plied it and there’s tons of elasticity!

Gypsy Caravan again

And on the floor in a pool of sunlight. I know the roving is called Celebration. But to me the yarn is Gypsy Caravan. It reminds of of colors and even textures I’d find in a gypsy caravan. Although I almost navjo plied it with some crazy mohair locks and called it Caraval. Very fun, Thanks Amy!

Re-plied Celebrations

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Yes, well, I said yesterday that I would be satisfied with my yarn being under-plied, but, well, I lied. I ran it through the wheel again today to a a little more twist and ended up with a much happier yarn, I think.

There are some more pictures on my blog, if you’d like to come look. (Though it’s interesting how the color photographed differently almost every time.)
