December and January Selections

First, I finally finished plying Party Dress, which was my first month in the club. It averages light fingering, which some thicker sections, and is approximately 400 yards.

I am using it to make socks, which are currently just a WIP.

I also had a lot of fun spinning Snow Squall into bulky singles. It was the first time I ever spun with Icelandic and think it would make a great hat, though I am reserving the right to change my mind at a moment’s notice. I haven’t really bothered to figure out the yardage on this handspun yet.

Party yarn

Here is my Party Dress yarn.

This was my first club fiber. I am a very new spinner (since December) so the yarn turned out a little thicker than I intended. This is a little more than 500 grams and a little more than 300 meters, about 7 wpi on average.

I separated each colour and spun them in sequence red-green-blue-green and so on for a striping yarn. Then I plied the singles with a white superwash merino. I had a double dose of fiber so I hope to have enough yarn to make a sweater for my four year old daughter. If not, I have more of the white fiber to spin.

I find this blog very inspiring. Thank you everyone for posting what you do with the club fiber!

I finished the first skein of this weeks ago, and then didn’t have time to get to the second until this week.

I’ve been wanting to make three-ply sock yarn for my first handspun socks, and when this December fiber arrived I knew it was perfect. I split each color into two singles and then plied two parts red to one part blue, two parts green to one part blue. Since there was less blue, I got a little bit extra of both red and green (the red and the red-green are both two-ply; the green represents my first successful attempt at chain-plying). I’ve got about 400 yards, which will be knit into a fabulous patterned pair of socks.

Soiree Dress?

I’m a colour short of a full party.

Party Dress

I get a double dose of fibre each month so what I did was separate the red entirely to save to use for something else. That left me with just under 6 oz. of turquoise and green, which I spun in alternating bands of colour. I 2-plied it from a centre-pull ball. I haven’t counted yardage or wpi or ypp, but it looks to me like a DK weight that will make some sturdy socks.

It’s Party time!

I finished spinning my first club fiber (November’s is still waiting).  :D  I really like how it came out!  Now for the Nitty Gritty…  I took the three primary colors and seperated them out and spun them up in to their own singles and then plied together.  The odd colors and left over singles will be plied together for a two ply.  This was handspun on a drop spindle, Trixie from ford4him on Etsy.  I only started spinning about a month ago.  :D  My thought is to make a hat from this and I’ll probably use the odd’s and end’s for the pom-pom.  It spun up to a bulky weight yarn.  I haven’t checked wpi yet but according to the spinner’s control card, it’s about 7 wpi in general.  Such fun colors!
