Whiskey in the Jar

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

I love this month’s colors!  I chose to knit Nancy Bush’s Spey Valley socks with my Forecast yarn.  Spey Valley is a pattern inspired by a famous whiskey-producing region, and I couldn’t resist the connection even though my whiskey of choice is Knob Creek.   I’ve been listening to Irish drinking songs every day for weeks, so altogether I have an Irish-Scottish-Kentuckian whiskey-related convergance going on here.  Fun stuff.

Note, I’m not actually drinking in the middle of the afternoon, just taking a photo.  I save my wild consumption 3 teaspoons for evening when I’m not alone with the kids.  ;)

I couldn’t wait!

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

So on Monday, there was a package waiting for me in the mail box.  I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas.  It was better than I had imagined from the clue!  I couldn’t wait to start spinning.

I have been on a singles kick recently.  This is the first 3.5 oz skein.  It is 418 yards long.  I am trying to get about 1000 yards out of the total 8 oz to use in making a wrap.

Howdy!

A friend got me membership for my birthday in September. I’m still a beginner with too many hobbies, so I’m slowly getting better. I used my September Leaf Peep yarn to knit Amy’s Fake Isle hat (along with leftover gray Lamb’s Pride). I’m very happy with the results. This is only my second handspun project (the first was a felted bag for my sister) I’m working on October’s Monster Mash now with the goal of one day getting fingering weight to make socks.

My name is Lorena, and I joined the Fiber club in June of last year. I was a new spinner (and still consider myself pretty new at it) and thought it would be a great way to get introduced to different types of fiber and different colorways. Let me troll through my flickr page, where I’ve been posting photos, and see what I can come up with…

Red Romney (at this point I became feeble at making notes for myself, and I can’t remember what month this is from. I gifted this to a friend for Christmas and she croched a hat with it (if it’s not bad form to show finished products, here’s the hat)

Again, I lost my notes, but here is some more that I had fun experimenting with.

And… that’s it. I’m running a little behind. Clearly I need to quit my job and spin and knit all day long!

I’m so glad this has been set up. I’ve wondered for a while what other people were doing with this fabulous fiber. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s photos, and getting to know everyone.

My club membership was a gift for Christmas.  I have spun up both December and January and can not wait for February.

January fiber now yarn

I spun both as 2 ply letting colors fall as they may.

Club Newbie

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Hi everyone! I’m a newbie to the club and February’s fiber will be my first. I’ve seen some gorgeous fiber from this club and I can’t wait to get my first shipment. I’m a pretty new spinner, just got my wheel in December. I love spinning, and am totally addicted already. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone!
