So Far Behind
Friday, November 30th, 2007I haven’t had a moment to spin up any of these wonderful fibers as of late. With the holiday season fast approaching my knitting had been dominating most of my time, but thats to the flu bug (did you ever think you’d see someone post that statement?!) and a much needed day off of work I spun up Aspen the September colorway.
2oz Superwash Merino Tencel, 26wpi, 300 yards

Its a lovely shiney yarn and I think it will make a nice lacey scarf for one of my co-workers.

Spunky Eclectic Fiber Club October 2007 selection
“Goblin Eyes”
Romney wool
4 oz., 290 yards
15 wpi (sportish)
I spun this very quickly with some sort of modified worsted long draw technique, pulling back with the fiber hand instead of forward with the forward hand, smoothing a bit as I went. It’s nice and airy and has great drape. I finished this skein with only a warm soak.

Spunky Eclectic Fiber Club November 2007 selection
“Pie for Everyone!”
Falklands wool (top)
3.5 oz. (there are leftovers), 180 yards
11 wpi (heavy worsted)
I spun this one in the same manner, though the wool wasn’t so long and slippery as the Romney, so didn’t go quite so fast. This one has more twist in it than the Romney, so it’s really springy. To finish this skein, I fulled and whacked. It became very squishy and bouncy.
Thanks for the gorgeous stuff, Amy!
Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007Well! November’s fiber showed up on my doorstep yesterday and boy was I hungry for all of that pie!

I spun this up pretty much immediately after receiving it! I’ve got about 246 yards of sport weight there, and it sure is soft. This was lovely to spin - it was smooth and even throughout. I split it in half and then into thirds (huh? It’s what it wanted to do…) and worked it up on 2 bobbins then plied it all on the lowest whorl. I didn’t add that much twist in the plying and it ended up perfectly balanced.
Here’s more:

It’s pretty yummy. I’m thinking maybe mittens or a BSJ. Any ideas?
Goblin Eyes
Monday, November 19th, 2007I’m glad I’m only in one fiber club, because I would not be able to keep up with more. This is my “Goblin Eyes”, 229yds of it, in 2-ply. I think this would have benefit from Navajo plying, but I’m not good at it. This way the colores are muted, and don’t show so well. I’m thinking of making some mittens, hopefully soon. I’m looking forward to the next installment already!
Happy knitting and spinning,
Monika
