Slip a stitch marker if needed. This way you can make sure to complete your rows before changes.
work 5 rows of 2x2 ribbing in the solid color.
Work in stockinette (all knit) for 2-3 more rows of the solid color, then switch to the variegated color.
Work in this way until your piece measures 9 (11, 12)inches from the begining

BO 2sts, knit 42(46,50)sts, BO 2sts, knit to the end of row.

Front
NOTE: slip the first stitch of every row to make a neater edge and eliminate the need for finishing off the armhole.
Turn and purl over all 42(46,50) sts
**Next row: K1, K2tog, knit until last 3 sts, SKP, K1, turn
Next row: Purl all,turn**
Repeat the 2 rows in the ** until you are left with 28(32,36) sts.
Break yarn, attach solid color, work 2 rows even.
Work 4 rows in 2x2 ribbing
BO all stitches knitwise. This will make a more decorative edge than if you bind off keeping with the ribbing.
Keep about 2(3) yards of yarn for the Icord and break from the skein.

Back
NOTE: slip the first stitch of every row to make a neater edge and eliminate the need for finishing off the armhole.
Attach yarn so that you are working on the wrong side, purl over all 42(46,50) sts

Straps
With the yarn that you left attatched at the top of your front pick up 3 sts and work your I-cord to desired length and graft the front to the back. Repeat for the back.

Finishing
weave in all ends. I also knot them, since its cotton, before I weave them in.
