May del 2007 - <title>Boogie Knits Boogie Knits

I was tagged by Dianna. I figured I’d do it now as I don’t have much I can show you knitwise. Not that stuff isn’t happening. It’s just stuff that can’t be shown.

Eight Random Things About Me:

Rules:
1. Each player starts with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. People who are tagged write a blog post about their 8 random things and post the rules.
3. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and post their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I don’t like working on computers. I resisted getting one for a long time. Even though I went to school for computer graphics and now most of my business is done online where I spend half my day at the computer.

2. My Gram taught me to knit and crochet. She never uses patterns because she never learned to read them. So I always made up my own patterns and never really minded ripping out or I would just “work in” the mistake. When I learned to read patterns and Gram wanted to knit/crochet something that she had a pattern for, I’d work up a swatch for her so she could “read” the new stitch.

3. I love getting pierced. My newest piercing is a Labret. If you see me at a fiber show over the next couple of months and I look like a duffus (no, really like a huge duffus) because I’m playing with the Labret with my tongue, poke me.

4. The house I live in is one that my parents built right after they were married and lived there until I was 13. When I say they built it, I don’t mean they had it built for them. They built it themselves with help from family and friends. I love this house.

5. I have a thing for knitting needles. Even if I don’t need a new set, if I see a set in colors - especially if they’re wooden ones in colors. I need them. Grafton Fibers has some and I only got one set. I’m wishing I had purchased one in each color.

6. I become a crispy critter in the sun. I almost always wear Sunblock and usually carry it with me. Just so you know.

7. I rarely change out my jewelry. I keep my necklace on most of the time, and I rarely change out the other jewelry. I clean it, I’m not a troll, but I usually put the same ones back in. I almost never wear my wedding band (actually right now it’s not even an option, I’ve gained weight since I had Boogie Baby and the ring isn’t comfortable to wear).

8. I’m not tagging anyone. I almost never do. If there are those of you that want to do the meme, by all means, do it and let me know in the comments.

Who cares about food when you have fiber?
I have no recipe for you. I kept meaning to make an enchilada recipe I have swirling around in my head but I kept getting busy. Getting ready for MA sheep and wool. Preparing to go to NH, mothers day and well, I was just plain consumed with the idea of the new wheel. I should probably warn you. I have 2 shows close together and with club shipping the week before one and close after the other, recipes and postings may be wonky or scarce. We’ll see what I can keep up with over the next couple of weeks. This all also means that there will be no new fiber in the online shop until June. I will however still do customs. I’ll be putting up a button on the wool page so you can order customs.

When I said that you should say hi and lavish me with fiber gifts. I didn’t actually mean it. Ok, I’m not complaining, not in the slightest. Gina brought me fibers.

Aren’t they gorgeous? I’ve started to spin the pink on - Madra’s Cocktail. I don’t have much time for spinning right now but it is beautiful and about lace weight. So it will take me a while.

Yes, that is on the new wheel. There are sme thicker spots, this is the first fiber I put on the wheel so there were some adjustments before it was doing what I wanted, but not much.

And Heather gave me some awesome stitch markers:

Argggh matey. I’ll have my knitting scared into submission. I did have skully stitch markers but they all had bows on them. Now these are much tougher. grrrrr.

Speaking of skulls. I did get to stop and talk briefly with Tom of Golding Spindles. You know, the man that made Sparrow for me. I never stopped long at the Golding booth. I was never really interested before. I did stop to meet Tom and to thank him once again for a great spindle. The booth was unfortunately packed and I had a baby strapped to me. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to stop in and visit at the Fiber Frolic. I hear he has some new spindles that are “must see” spindles.

I think the girls had a good time too

They got to see animals and the abby got to ride all day. That’s the easy life. Even though she did scream and claw a few times. She wanted to walk but she wanted to walk all by herself. From 1 year old right on up to a teenager in a matter of months.

It was great to see so many of you. I couldn’t even name all of you an link to all. It was great seeing you again. This is the show that I get to see Miss Pippi but we didn’t get to spend much time together. I promise I’ll be up to VT this summer to see you lady.

Finally, the magnificent Juno had my wheel. Here he is sitting with Gus and Bettie.

The big guy is Husbeast sized. Jensen is taller than Bettie and Bettie is up about a foot off the ground. Jensen is older than I originally thought but still not a bad deal. I need to do something about the mother of all and this winter he will be totally refinished. I actually have plans to get my Dad to help me turn more bobbins and possibly a new flyer, I want bigger bobbins. They don’t need to be huge but I’d like them to be at least as big as the Ashford 2 ouncers. If you want to see the bobbin now - look up -the Madras is being spun on Jensen.

Baby Boogie is stylin’ in her new spring jacket. I made it in size 4 in the hopes that it will last her til Fall. We’ll see if I have to whip up another quickly again. I swear she’s growing too fast.
Pattern: Needful stripes - Boogie (coming soon)
Yarn: Encore Worsted
Needles: US5

I wrote up the adult pattern for this too. Both sweaters have absolutely NO sewing. I love it. I did submit the pattern to Knitty. If they don’t want it then I’ll release both patterns (adult and shild) together.

I don’t have a booth at NHSW but I’ll be attending tomorrow.
Stop me and say hi - this is me:

I usually wear my Noro sweater that I made a few years ago. If you look at the Noro picture, I don’t have a mohawk anymore, it’s a picture from 2004.   So if you see me, stop me, say hi, lavish me with fiber.

First I want to send out a big THANK YOU to Juno. She is the most marvelous person that is picking up my new wheel and bringing it to me. Go check her out, she’s doing some destashing, you might find something you need. And thank you to everyone else that commented. If the wheel could ride on spirit alone, I know it would have gotten here quickly without anyone needing to get it for me.
Here she is:

Just as I was placing my bid for the wheel on Friday, Husbeast sent me a message. At the time he didn’t know about the wheel yet, but he does know how I am. He found this statement in another community where they were talking about other things, he correctly thought it would be appropriate for us. I changed the words a bit to make it fit the fiber lust.
When asked how many more wheels you need, the answer is “just one more”. It’s always going to be “just one more”
The equation (which I really appreciated) looks like this:
X=the number of wheels you currently own
Y=equals the final number of wheels you want to own.
Therefore X+1=Y
And on it goes. It’s nice that he understands.
Now I have to find a place to put Jensen. I think the Ashford or the Louet will have to reside at the shop for a while.

I finished Baby boogies sweater and I forced her to do a photo shoot. I think she was tired because when I asked her to pout her lips and toss her hair back, she just stared at me. I still need to go through the photos so I’ll keep this all about spinning.

I started the fiber from Abby

I did one of the four batts. I’m thinking of holding off now until Jensen gets here. But then, can I wait til this weekend? Can you guess what I’ll be doing all day Sunday?

BIG

I have big things for you today. Or maybe they’re big things for me.

Number 1 big thing
I won a wheel. It’s in NJ. That’s right. Silly me bid on an ebay wheel in NJ that is pick up only. Anyone coming up from NJ for a fiber even that want’s to pick up a giant wheel for me?? Or will I be making a long drive south? I bid on it and bid low because I really have wanted this wheel for a long time. But then as I calculated the drive time, I began to wish someone would out bid me. So no one in NJ wanted a Jensen? Will someone in NJ want to drive the Jensen north? I’ll be at NHSW, MA SW and ME Fiber Frolic.

Number 2 big thing
Big Portabello mushroom caps. Meat for the vegetarian. It has a great texture and it is one of the few non-meatish meaty things that really grill well. Don’t even talk to me about griling Boca Burgers, they get so dry on the grill. Not that I won’t still eat them…

bigmushroomrecipe

Bascially we’re going to grill a cap and then fill it up.
Brush off any dirt on the cap - then brush it with olive oil and grill the sucker.
Then stuff it.
Nana’s Recipe:
Spinache, sun dried tomatoes, garlic and onions.
Rice Recipe (shown above):
Spinache, brown rice, soy replacement product or tofu (if you need that extra protein kick), onions, more mushrooms.

Basically you cook up one of the stuffing recipes and once the mushrooms are grilled, you stuff them. I know I didn’t give you ingredient amounts. It all depends on how many you make and having left over stuffing really isn’t a tragedy. It’s nice to eat by itself too.

Big thing number 3
I did a huge amount of knitting last week.
I bought yarn last week for a Baby Boogie sweater. Over the weekend I got a good bunch of it done. I devised a pattern that has no sewing! It’s freakin incredible. The pattern pages are at least one page longer than normal and there are a few more ends to weave in (dang stripes) but I really am happy with the sweater.

I hope I get it done in the next couple of days. Although it’s supposed to be nice weather, this is supposed to be her spring sweater. I know, nothing like cutting it close.
