December del 2007 - <title>Boogie Knits Boogie Knits

Some of you might remember that I’m a potter. That I worked professionally as one for something like 10 years. I don’t think I’ll ever not be a potter even if I’m not making much pottery these days. I always feel more calm when my hands are in a lump of clay. I just love it. When I can’t be working I take pleasure in using the pottery of mine and others. So today I dug up some knit/sheep related Pottery:

Sheep and knitting mug!
Kendig Cottage Very pretty sheep pottery
Knitting Needle Jar
Little Ceramic Sheep So sweet!
Caroline Smith Pottery Really pretty landscapes with sheep.
Knitwear pottery This is a must see, it looks like Aran vases and such. Very pretty indeed.
Ebay has some really nice McCoy spinning wheel planters. There seems to be a ton of them. They are wicked cute though.

This one isn’t exactly pottery but I have to mention it. It’s the most beautiful hand knit “pottery”. It’s all knit and it’s certainly very cool.

If you are looking for some other spinning collectible - something like a photo,a lamp or a charm…. There are a ton on EBAY.
I have one of those really cute lamps.

I got it as an early Xmas present from my friends Scott and Mindy. Thank you again guys, it’s super cute.

What have I been doing?
I’ve been avoiding that awful chunky jiffy sock with:
worstedsock
A worsted weight sock for Miss 7 going on 20

mvest
A vest for Miss 7 going on 20. Trying to make as many projects for her that are not those awful socks. Ok, I’ll still probably finish one pair of socks but certainly not both in that awful yarn. Don’t think I’m bashing all acrylic - the other 2 projects for her are mostly acrylic. I am bashing Jiffy. It has to be my least favorite acrylic ever. I’d rather knit with Red Heart that everyone else bashes. I’ll have more info about the vest on my Ravelry for those that are curious.

And I’ve been spinning:
c_tstorm2ply
Darn flash made it look brighter than it is. It’s Corriedale in the colorway Thunderstorm. Just a 2 ply that will be nice for socks or some such. We’ll see what I actually end up doing with it.

I meant to post these over the weekend but I forgot. It seems like the day before a storm, we have the most gorgeous sunrises. It certainly seems that the colder the weather, the nicer the sunrise. Of course, when we have a snow storm moving in, all we get are grey skies.

When I got up, it was still dark. I went into the dungeon to dye and kept checking the sky as I always do on these early mornings. The Sunrise started out pretty boring. Just some purple and a little yellow. Then we got this:
sky

And I stuck around because I knew more was coming. This was the pinnacle of the sunrise:

If you click the photos you get to see them really big.

This morning I spent my dye time shoveling and cleaning off the cars. I know it’s sick but I actually like to shovel (to a degree). It’s started to snow again. For those of you wishing for snow
tree
I hope you get some soon.

I wish I could say that I spent my snow day knitting and finishing projects. I knit a sock for 7 going on 20 and it stunk so I’m ripping and reknitting. It’s much better know. I also spun a bit. The rest of the day was spent trying to get ahead on club dyeing. The Christmas holiday is cutting right into the club shipment time so I’m hoping to get it done early. If not it will be late this month.

I’ve been waiting for this. I can’t wait to go sledding. I’ll have some pictures for you the next time I post. It’s not all winter wonderland white yet.

I do have a recipe for you today. A great breakfast for a snowy day. Pumpkin Pancakes.
Imagine picture here - we ate them ALL before I could remember to take a picture

1.5 cups of brown rice flour
1 flax egg
1/4 cup of crushed walnuts (I grind them up finer than you get them in the package)
1/2 cup pumpkin (cooked and pureed)
cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to taste.

Cook like you would any other pancake. I always make a double batch. We eat one batch and the second batch I partially cook it and then I put them in the freezer or the fridge. The next time we want pancakes and I don’t have the time to make them, I can pull them out and heat them up in the pan. They finish cooking and they don’t get soggy like they do in the micro.

On to knitting.
Finally I have a picture of Baby Boogie’s “Lello” shawl:
bb_fcshawl_lello
It’s the Forest Canopy Shawl using worsted weight superwash. I used 7 repeats instead of the usual. I was afraid of running out of yarn. I would have if I had done another repeat. As it is, it’s just slightly smaller than the original shawl I did in the correct yarn. I’m going to do another one in worsted weight. I figure using Big Ball at 450 yards per skein - I’ll be able to make a pretty good sized and warm shawl.

I also finished my mitts.

And I’ve worn them plenty too. The yarn is a 2ply handspun - the colorway is from Hello Yarn’s fiber club. I didn’t use a pattern, I just made them. But I have some notes that you can see on Ravelry
