January del 2009 - <title>Boogie Knits

Thank you Lamb. It’s another Ravelry Pattern. Ravelry really has become a fabulous source for all things knitty. Gotta love it.
surprise_Ella
I used some discontinued Spunky Eclectic yarn that was hanging around the shop. Out of the couple of colors left, I thought this one might be a good color for me….I had finished it just before my friends Ella and Tony had arrived for a visit last weekend. As soon as Ella held it up to her face I knew it wasn’t my color but it was definitely hers.

I finished another project that most definitely is mine.

Languishing out in the snow:

Because of drifting, the snow is up to our window sills in spots thanks to yesterday’s storm.
Details:
Fiber is from Enchanted Knoll. It was a special set so I can’t tell you what the exact colors are but I bet Josette remembers because she’s a batt making powerhouse.
The yarn is a simple 2 ply that is about DK/Worsted weight that I knit on 2.25mm needles.

Warm - Soft - Sparkly….All the things a good pair of mittens should have.

Half the yarn I make it’s because I enjoy the colors or the fiber. The other half is with a project in mind. Whether I actually follow through with the project or not is another thing. The yarn I finished plying over the weekend was made with a project in mind.
hatyarn
The fiber is solidly colored corriedale that I sell in the shop
I made 4 ounces of each color.
Sport weight 2ply.

Normally I would say that a 3 ply is best for colorwork but I did a really tight worsted yarn. The product won’t be as defined as a three ply but it should still be pretty. I’ve done this before or I’d have sampled to be sure I did it right. This is where keeping your samples/swatches helps.

I’ve always wanted to make a We call them Pirates hat by Adrian of Hello Yarn but that style of hat makes me look a little like a certain part of the male anatomy….. Then comes in a hat that does look good on me Selbu Modern, but I’m not a flowery girl. I was thinking of sucking it up and just making it anyway but I’ve come to the decision that I need skulls and I need the tam shape. I’ll be working on coming up with a pattern that works for me.

Then I’ll just need to decide on what to make for matching mittens. Or maybe my knit pickiness will be too much for me to handle and I’ll give up after the hat….Funny, if someone makes me something I’m so happy with whatever it is, if I’m making it, I’m so picky half the time I give up.

Well, not up. I’m still in a basement…the last basement had daylight and this one doesn’t. Though, this one does have a few things the other one doesn’t. A few important things….

Cassie and Sara don’t really come with the dye kitchen. But tons of space, ergonomic flooring, 2 ovens and 3 sink basins do come with it:

The photos were taken before anything had moved in. I’ve now got almost all of the stuff out of the old shop and into the new. I just need to set it up so it’s usable and I’ll be dyeing like crazy again. Faster and twice as much at any one time.

And it did yesterday.

Lots and lots and lots.

I adore the snow. I know I seem to be in a minority and my Dad will read this post and grumble. In a few more months I’ll be whining about the heat and wishing for the snow. I’ve been trying to get extra “cold” time because I know it will be gone before I’m ready for it to.

Still, there is something so sweet, so calming, so purely beautiful about falling snow. There is also something else oddly magical about it. It may be an attitude left over from the “snow days” of my childhood. A day when the snow is just falling thickly and continuously is still a “snow day”. It’s a day to stay inside and to cuddle up with the family.

Of course it’s very likely that it’s not the snow that I love. But the chance to be covered in woolies, sitting in front of a fire, spinning. You can’t do that in 90F weather with 70% humidity.

Almost food…

With the cold being of the stupid cold variety….Specifically this morning it’s -15F and no one is heading outside to play, we need to keep finding something to do inside. I got 8goingon20 making fake food for her and Boogie Baby to play with. So far she has lettuce, a burger, and a cookie done. We have a ton cut out to make more:

Another burger with buns, dumplings, doughnuts and a bunch more cookies. We’ll see what we get to today after schoolwork is done.

I’ve had very little time to do any knitting or spinning but I did manage to almost get a mitten done.
