February del 2009 - <title>Boogie Knits

I finished it. Ends woven in. Zipper in. I even Blocked it!
That’s my dirty secret. I often wear things before blocking. I get too excited to wear them and so they don’t get blocked. This time I did it. But you get an awful photo. Good Morning!

Maybe this weekend someone will snap a better one for me.
I’m heading out to work in a bit to load the truck so I’m about to be off the web for the weekend.
I’ll catch up with you all on Monday.

More photos of snow:

if you click that photo and head over to my flickr, you’ll see a few more photos of the snow plastered to the sides of trees.

More yarn:

This is a 2 ply from some of the sock Batts I have in the shop. I was playing around with woolen and worsted spinning techniques. I wanted to see just how well the batts were carded and how well they spun. I approve and I’ll make some lovely little girl mitts out of this someday. It’s pretty pastel. I think I’m going to have to take one of the darker ones for me.

8 ounces of 4 ply from a Hello Yarn Club. I love doing a 4 ply. It’s difficult without a Lazy Kate that doesn’t hold 4 bobbins. I’m hoping I can get Papa to make one for me and maybe the shop. I would like to do more 4 plies. This one has made me really want to make more.

Always more.

And for good measure with flash:

And the back yard.

That thick ropey looking thing in the foreground is the dog lead. Mick goes out on a leash because he’s still new but Kola got to run around. Which is good. The snow is over Mick’s head and we would have lost him. Kola was funny hopping around. It’s still snowing and I may take more photos later, it’s pretty funny watching dogs in deep deep snow. There is that great Youtube video of a Crazy dog in the snow.

While it was cold and icky out last night, I knit. With my neice’s sweater off the needles, I worked on mine:

Mick has realized that laying in my lap with knits is an ok thing. It’s actually a favorite pillow of Kola’s. I finished knitting my sweater and crocheted the front edges, I just need to put in a zipper. Now I’m going to pick out new yarn and restart the Niece BSJ.

With the weather the way it is and so much of Maine without power, work may be a temporary thing today and I might get to knit a bit more. Until that time though, I’m going to work as hard as I can to get shipping labels printed for club.

And more….
For Mick the stinker dog. The baby niece BSJ is not finished. First I was slowed down by receiving proof pages for my book and needing to edit and get it all back within my deadline. My weekend was spent with that. I got back to knitting on Tuesday and Wednesday I woke up to this:
bsj_broken

He didn’t want the wood….he ate the cord. Which meant yarn got attacked in the process. I had to rip back a bit but I finally have a full section without holes and I didn’t have to go back more than an inch or so.

Believe it or not, I didn’t have another set of needles that I could slip in so I put it away and got new needles last night. Hopefully today I’ll pick all the stitches back up and begin again.

February 14th is Kola’s birthday, or at least the birthday we assigned her. All we knew when we got her at the shelter is that her birthday was in February. The 14th seemed like a good middle of the month easy day to remember. What did we do for Kola’s birthday?
We went to the shelter:

I’m not sure this is the “present” Kola would have chosen for herself.

And he isn’t really Kola’s present. Kola was a present for our last dog Min to keep her company but Little man here is for all of us. Though, I’m sure in time Kola will appreciate the company and won’t think of him as the usurper of all the space on the couch.

Hopefully they’ll be good playmates too because they each have so much energy.

Of course the little man seems to think wheels are tasty and wool is fun to pull out of bags and laps are for lounging.

He’s right about the laps….As for the rest of that, we’ve got some training to do. The only words he seems to understand is cookie and no. The rest will come in time.
