family -
Boogie Knits Boogie Knits

Some of you may think that I’m the one that wears the crazy pants in my family. You would be wrong.
crazyboots
The pants themselves may not be crazy on Baby Boogie but the feet are. She’s had a thing about wearing her boots almost constantly. They are the first thing she puts on in the morning and the last thing she wants off at night. She scrambles and gets frantic if she can’t find a pair to put on. This is not the crazy part.

I’ve been sick of her wearing the boots on the couch. I pulled them off the other day and within minutes a fight ensued. Not a fight with me, but a fight of the feet. That’s right. When her shoes are off, left foot and right foot have an all out drag out argument included kicking.

Put the boots on and the fighting stops!

I would have thought this to be a silly one time game. Something the girl did just to occupy her bootless feet. Nope. Those little feet get near each other and they’re having an argument. How many people have feet that can’t get along with one another?

I feel for her having such a problem with her feet. I decided to cast on for her sweater. We sat down yesterday (boots on, so we wouldn’t be interrupted) and discussed what she wanted. Blue with Buttons. Then we sat with a few patterns and she chose the Baby Surprise.

I’m worried that summer sandals won’t be enough to keep the feet from fighting….

You know I’ve been busy if casting on for a scarf sounds like a good idea.

I think I might be able to blame Norma a little for it. Her friend in This Post looks so cute with the scarf on and Norma made it sound like an easy knit and she posted a link to the pattern. What’s a gal to do when faced with all of that? That’s right. The gal casts on.

The scarf and I have an understanding. She knows that as soon as I have more time and can work on a more complicated pattern, she’ll be cast into the UFO heap. She is made with handspun but still that may not be enough to get me to finish it. We’re all ok with that.

In fact what I need to pick up when I have a brain is this:
pinkacrylic_for_7-20
Yes, it’s acrylic. My girls need something washable and there is a specific sweater that belongs to “7 going on 20″ that I need to replace. It’s something that she got as a gift last year and it started to fall apart after the first washing. Now it’s in shambles and the only way I can throw it away (in a nice way, we could of course do this with lots of screaming and tears) is to replicate it. This is the yarn that was chosen to replicate it. I’m pretty sure the yarn will hold up well. Lets hope I hold up to the acrylic knitting.

I’m leaving you for the weekend with a picture from Halloween.

My sneaker wearing Gypsies. And in case you can’t see what is on their “crystal” ball - the future foretold a couple of girls with massive bags of candy and more candy floating all about them. That was quite true. They both overfilled their bags.

Husbeast and I decided to take a night off for ourselves and head out to Bar Harbor with no children in tow. It sounded like a good idea until we realize we had been infected. I’m thinking it was allergies and there was some giant hairball of a cat around. Still I wanted to pretend I was fine. We went out to Cadillac and I decided I didn’t want to climb around, so I sat and knit.

It was right after that photo that I started to wonder if it was allergies or something bigger… The drive home we call home and the girls had been feeling ill, though not to the level that Husbeast and I were getting hit. The girls today are running around and happy. I am taking every herbal concoction that I have in my medicinal bag (everything that is that is safe to combine and won’t be overdoing it).

I’ll be resting and trying really hard to feel better for Rhinebeck. Of course I hope to get every order shipped that needs to be shipped as well. I’m not dyeing today but I’ll be back at it tomorrow and shipping out then. Today I’m concentrating on the kids and making some hot and sour soup.

I have some knitting to show off but that requires effort on my part to get up and photograph it. I’ll show it all off soon, I promise.

I was feeling like I had nothing to show. Nothing at all for the past 4 days. Well. There are a few things, just not necessarily knitting. I still have precious little knitting time it seems. I did get a smidge done last night. Here is where I am on the sweater:

Pitiful little is done. I also don’t have the cable charts written up. I will have to do that this morning in the hopes that I make it to Knitting night at The Knitting Experience and get more done.

I wish I could say I’ve been spinning up a storm and that’s why I have nothing to show. But really I’ve only plied another hank of Cosmo and worked on some singles. Nothing at all worth showing.

I have been doing a lot with food lately though. I got Kefir Grains on Tuesday when I got this. Jennifer Moore is a fount of knowledge. Especially where foods are concerned. She passed on some Kefir grains which are happily feasting on some Rice milk right now. They are happy little guys and they are doing their job. I also have some videos to pass on. I think it was from a Peter Jennings HD special. It’s now 5 episodes on You tube.

Episode 5
All of that makes me more solid in my desire to can more foods for my family. I got this done yesterday:

I’ll be working on Marmalade, Salsa, Green Beans, Dilly Beans, Summer Squash and Zucchini in my “spare time” today. Ok, my time is a delicate balance of multi tasking. One of these days I’ll describe the crazy dance of multitasking that is my life.

And then I’ve been working on our curriculum. School starts Tuesday. I feel like we’ve hardly had a summer. Still, getting back into the regular school schedule will be nice.

Last but not least. I got the skeleton of my Mom’s website done. King’s Treasures and the Blog. Not that my Mom or Aunt have time to write much in their blog. But hopefully they’ll have some quilting goodness up soon.

I think that’s about it for me. I need to start my Marmalade so my multitasking all works in unison. I hope you have a good Holiday weekend (if you’re in the US) and I’ll be back on Tuesday with a recipe, I promise.

I love my Grammy. Grammy is awesome. Those of you that have met her know how cool she is. Others of you might get an understanding of how neat Gram is by reading here. Especially if you’ve been reading a while, you have read some stories. I told some of you the reaction Gram had when I got my last tattoo (the one that honored my girls). Gram loved the tattoo and talked about how it was way better than getting jewelry to honor their births. I’d always have the tattoo and the story of it with me. The girls will always be able to see a reminder of them on me.

Sweet, I know. It was good to see that she “got it”. At 93, you never know what the reaction is especially since her generation of women didn’t do this. Her reaction almost made me cry it was so perfect.

Now, for those that don’t know, my whole family is getting honored on my arms. I figured with a response like that, Gram had to be next. She was the one that taught me to knit and crochet. Since Gram’s strokes, crocheting is the main thing she is able to do in her leisure time. And boy does she ever turn out afghans! I couldn’t think of any way better to honor Gram than to have her name on a crochet hook.

But there is more to it than that. This tattoo has been in the works for well over a month so I’d have all the pieces to take in to Jennifer. I asked Gram to make me the little granny square (Granny squares are my favorite but it’s also fitting since it’s a Granny square). She had given me the needles at one point last year. They are the needles that her dad made for her when she was a little girl.

The hook was the one thing I didn’t have until just this past Monday (One day before I was getting tatooed). I was sitting with Gram and noticed she was working with a different hook than normal. I always saw her working with this gold colored hook so the new green one really stood out. When I asked about the change, Gram’s reply was the hook had worn down too much and it was no longer good to crochet with. I asked to have it and my set was complete.

Yes, the ball of yarn changed color. I wanted to work in with the rest of the tattoos forthcoming so I changed it. I’m thrilled with it. I’ll have to take a picture once the redness and swelling go down, and have another person do it. The only one up right now is me myself and I so it’s not easy taking a photo of your inner right arm.
