It sure does leave a pretty landscape for a sunrise:

Since that’s probably a little cold for some of you….how about some Beach Day:

I’m working on weaving a scarf from a previous club offering of yarn and fiber. I’ve got one more scarf planned that uses fiber and yarn together. Then, I’ll be putting together a few kits that show the 3 different options (remember the first scarf?). I really like working with the fiber and yarn this way. It’s my new favorite for scarves.

Icy winds and snow were not what I really expected today. I’m not sure why I didn’t expect it. I whimped out last night on unpacking the truck. I was tired, it was cold…I figured it could wait until today. Mom helped me unload everything and I started to go through it to take photos for the update.

These are the fibers I was teasing about last week but never got the photos

I need to do more dyeing but I’m about beat at the moment. Husbeast is having eye surgery tomorrow. Hopefully by Wednesday the shop will be up and running as normal so that by the weekend I can have an update done. I’m still going to try to make it into the shop tomorrow at some point to get shipping done. I wasn’t able to do it Thursday last week so I have a bunch of stuff that really needs to get done.

Maybe I’ll even find my SPA goodies that are packed somewhere in it all.

More photos of snow:

if you click that photo and head over to my flickr, you’ll see a few more photos of the snow plastered to the sides of trees.

More yarn:

This is a 2 ply from some of the sock Batts I have in the shop. I was playing around with woolen and worsted spinning techniques. I wanted to see just how well the batts were carded and how well they spun. I approve and I’ll make some lovely little girl mitts out of this someday. It’s pretty pastel. I think I’m going to have to take one of the darker ones for me.

8 ounces of 4 ply from a Hello Yarn Club. I love doing a 4 ply. It’s difficult without a Lazy Kate that doesn’t hold 4 bobbins. I’m hoping I can get Papa to make one for me and maybe the shop. I would like to do more 4 plies. This one has made me really want to make more.

Always more.

And for good measure with flash:

And the back yard.

That thick ropey looking thing in the foreground is the dog lead. Mick goes out on a leash because he’s still new but Kola got to run around. Which is good. The snow is over Mick’s head and we would have lost him. Kola was funny hopping around. It’s still snowing and I may take more photos later, it’s pretty funny watching dogs in deep deep snow. There is that great Youtube video of a Crazy dog in the snow.

While it was cold and icky out last night, I knit. With my neice’s sweater off the needles, I worked on mine:

Mick has realized that laying in my lap with knits is an ok thing. It’s actually a favorite pillow of Kola’s. I finished knitting my sweater and crocheted the front edges, I just need to put in a zipper. Now I’m going to pick out new yarn and restart the Niece BSJ.

With the weather the way it is and so much of Maine without power, work may be a temporary thing today and I might get to knit a bit more. Until that time though, I’m going to work as hard as I can to get shipping labels printed for club.

And it did yesterday.

Lots and lots and lots.

I adore the snow. I know I seem to be in a minority and my Dad will read this post and grumble. In a few more months I’ll be whining about the heat and wishing for the snow. I’ve been trying to get extra “cold” time because I know it will be gone before I’m ready for it to.

Still, there is something so sweet, so calming, so purely beautiful about falling snow. There is also something else oddly magical about it. It may be an attitude left over from the “snow days” of my childhood. A day when the snow is just falling thickly and continuously is still a “snow day”. It’s a day to stay inside and to cuddle up with the family.

Of course it’s very likely that it’s not the snow that I love. But the chance to be covered in woolies, sitting in front of a fire, spinning. You can’t do that in 90F weather with 70% humidity.
